Training:

Established in 1987 Satori Shotokan Academy has 23 years experience training students.

Chief Instructor has personally trained in Shotokan Karate since 1972, a total of 38years. Paul's dedication has certainly paid off, as he now holds the rank of 5th Dan.

Paul is one of the most experienced Instructors in the area.

Paul Barron’s karate career has encompassed the complete student and instructing experience of karate. A successful competitor with local and National titles, Paul is now a recognised National and International Instructor, teaching in Europe and North America.

Satori Ryu is affiliated to the English Shotokan Alliance (of which Paul is a founder member) and the Japan Karate-Do International, headed by Chief Instructor Yasuyoshi Saito 8th Dan.

Training Times:

Satori Ryu trains three or four times per week in the evening. All classes 6:30 - 8:00pm.

  • Monday: Intermediate to Advanced Level
  • Tuesday: Beginners to 6th Kyu
  • Wednesday: Intermediate to Advanced Level
  • Friday: (as arranged) Designated focus on advanced kata

Training emphasises traditional Japanese methods and standards, as would be expected at a traditional style club.


Satori Ryu was one of the first clubs in the area to have a private traditional dedicated dojo, a venue which today is the envy of many instructors. The advantages of training with us include:
